Celebrating Mexico & All Things Mango

August 1, 2018

Bay Area Consumers and Buyers Co-Mingle with Farm to Table Mangoes

“The experience of being alongside consumers in this format was so rewarding. It wasn’t about selling or being sold to, so it was natural and easy. Everyone was there to enjoy food (heavily featuring mangoes in all different ways, some obvious and some creative.) I found the conversation was comfortable because everyone has the common experience of great food, drinks and company.  Loved the evening and the excitement it created. The “party favor”, a case of Crespo Organic Mangoes was the perfect send-off to keep the evening fresh in mind.” Maroka Kawamura, Produce/Floral Program and Category Manager New Leaf Community Market

This past Sunday, July 31st , the Bay Area got to join in on a -truly- farm to table  experience, as Crespo Organic Mangoes teamed up with Ger-Nis  Culinary & Herb Center’s Sunday Supper Club in Bolinas, California.

Ger-Nis’ Sunday Supper club, an educational eating experience, happening once per season,  featuring a decadent multi course meal, staring local, organic, sustainable and fairtrade farmers, showcased mangoes and Mexico,   for their 2018  summer’ shindig,  “A Celebration of Mexico,” highlighted Crespo Organic mangoes and the culinary prowess of the Crespo Organic Kitchen. A fully mango-centric menu gave 45 mango consumers and retail buyers from all over the Bay Area  a taste of Mexico,  as told through a  unique mango eating and drinking experience.

The meal called attention tothe last of Crespo’s sweet and spicy Ataulfo (#DontCallMeHoney) mangoes,  as well as the succulent, deep orange hued kentsBoth varietals offer nearly fiberless flesh and thus a bevy of velvety sweet and spicy sauces were an obvious menu addition, including crowd favorites Crespo Sinaloa Sauce & Mango Turmeric Tabasco Sauce.  A fresh organic fruit Margarita and Agua Fresca Bar highlighted not only a few different mango options, but all the organic fruit flavors were sweetened by the Crespo Kitchen’s genius recipe – Mango Pit Margarita Mixer, which not only gives the answer for what to do with the fleshy pits, but gives a perfectly perfumed and slightly tropical alternative to the common “coolaide” type  sweetener or mixer.

Guests took home all the recipes as well as cases of fresh mangoes.  A lucky raffle winner departed with 2  bronze mango forks and a few party goers are sporting new SF Giants colored Crespo mango tree hats.

The event was a great success, constructed to showcase and celebrate Crespo Organic Mangoes and the Mexican  farmers and culture they come from. Ger-Nis and the Crespo Kitchen fused traditional Mexican dishes like mole and ceviche with Mexican and locally grown organic produce and  few modern twists.  All in all, the menu was a wild success and it gave both buyers and consumers a fresh perspective on mango consumption. Happiness was abundant and folks left the event excited about both mangoes and Mexico.

The Crespo Organic Kitchen,  whose mission is to educate, engage, excite and entice consumers on all things mango, through a bevy of useful and relevant  how to information, recipes,  as well as unique mango experiences,  aims to incorporate more of these  unique food events into future seasons in conjunction with regional retailers and distributors nationwide.  Not only do these experiences educate consumers and excite buyers, but they truly help encourage  authentic consumption of mangoes, with a unique view into and connection with the farm and farmers who grow them. Consumers and buyers experiencing a – truly-  farm to table experience side by side.

Here is a look at this weekend’s menu, The Crespo Kitchen is hard at work with the final recipe edits and all will all be posted to the website soon!
